I have used these with a USB extension but my favorite way of using this light is like a lantern on a USB battery extender often used to extend the life of a cell phone.  I can use this in the battery pack and I have a very handy lantern for remote work.  I have some Goal Zero lanterns too but these work and for a fraction of the cost and it is very easy to hand one off to a fellow EMCOMM worker if they need the extra light with low power draw.
